This has been one weird Spring in the North Bay
It's pouring rain on May 27th. I can't remember it ever being so wet this late. The whole Spring has been off -- like an extended winter. I know there's an el Nino off the coast, so maybe that accounts for it. But I also wonder if this is a harbinger of something larger. Like Climate Change.

Thoughts?

1. I've thought that more than once, here.
It's muggy, like earthquake weather. These showers are late. The wildflowers came up at least a month early in the San Jose foothills.

I guess I shouldn't be complaining because last summer was brutal up here. But, I agree. The weather has been weird.

2. Yeah, I need to go out to clean chimneys today.
It's not that much fun in the rain. I'm waiting for a little break.

Radar map looks like it's just about done though.

3. Odd in So Call too
Very wet. It's either very warm and muggy, or very cold and damp. The local weather people can't keep up at all.

I saw this very, very bizarre cloud last week! It was like a mild tornado on its side. It stretched at least 50 miles across the LA basin, from San Pedro to Sierra Madre. I saw the entire expanse of this cloud as I drove south on I5 through East LA.

There wasn't another cloud in the sky...

I couldn't get a shot of the tail end near San Pedro without getting out of my car on a small bridge... so I decided to let it go... but now wish I had because I keep thinking of the twirly end and the impact seeing it had on me after following that cloud all the way home.

I've never seen anything like it.

9. It's not all that unusual
May has always been the tail end of the storm season, and we typically get one or two good rainshowers during the month before the long dry spell sets in. You have to remember that these are averages though, with some years having more, and some having none at all. This is just a "more" year.

Overall, our rainfall this spring has only been about 12% above the "average" year across the northern state. It varies by region though...5-15% above normal in the Central Valley, 15%-20% above normal for the SF Bay area, and about 10% below normal in places like Crescent City and Redding.

I wouldn't worry about climate change until we start seeing this sort of thing in July :)

Where's the high pressure that parks itself over the state this time of year? It's unusually muggy and hazy now, too.
