Oakland council member Ignacio de la Fuente arrested for drunk driving

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

De La Fuente was pulled over for speeding near the Fruitvale Avenue exit of eastbound Interstate 580 in Oakland at about 7:30 Thursday night, CHP Officer Sam Morgan said. CHP clocked De La Fuente at about 80 miles per hour in a 65-mile-an-hour zone.

Also, de la Fuente had been involved in a July 2010 car crash (without alcohol) according to the state Dept of Motor Vehicles, but I can't find any news reports to substantiate that. And his son Ignacio Jr. is a convicted rapist serving 14 years since 2007. De la Fuente was first elected to the city council in 1992 and was most recently re-elected in 2008 with 53% of the vote among 4 candidates for District 5.

But Ignacio is a free man today: "The councilman's wife, Elvia De La Fuente, picked him up from the jail Thursday night."
