CRITICAL REMIX FESTIVAL – NATIONAL REMIX VIDEO COMPETITION

The Critical Remix Festival will open on Thursday, January 6, 2011 as a Fresno ArtHop stop at Gallery 25, 660 Van Ness Ave. (downtown Fresno one block north of Ventura), and will run through January 30. The Remix Festival is partnered with an exhibit by Diron Lyons featuring vintage signs from gasoline stations and oil companies and paintings of oil company inspired signs by Diron Lyons.
This first-of-its-kind video remix festival will feature videos on the theme “Oil and War” and is presented by the Appropriation Alliance
http://www.appropriationalliance.org/. The festival will be the culmination of a nationwide competition in which remix artists submitted YouTube-ready videos and are vying for a $1000 prize. Sponsors include Peace Fresno, the Fresno Chapter of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, and the Fresno Center for Nonviolence.
On opening night the winner of the competition will be announced. A program featuring the winning video, other finalists, and selected remix videos will play continuously beginning at the top of each hour from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Organizer/artist Diron Lyons and Appropriation Alliance founder, Byron Russell will host the evening.
