Early Warning: Media hypes South Cal secession effort
Check CNN, MSNBC, among others. I guess with the debt ceiling fiasco winding down they need something new to create red meat over. But if you aren't careful, they could send the tone of your state way south. I'm interested in seeing how you deal with this guy... he's apparently quite determined.

1. I read "determined" as "demented"!

Shows what the M$M knows. Secession movements of varying degrees of kookiness have been a fixture out here since WWII (the "State of Jefferson"; the NPR affiliate up there calls itself "Jefferson Public Radio"!).

But usually the lines are drawn north-south, and most often by northerners who want to keep SoCal's giant straw from sucking them dry. The idea that someone would try to form a "South California" without L.A. is just bizarre. Guess there's just too many Dem-voting brown folks thereabouts. :eyes:

4. Actually, Jefferson State was a pre-war concept.
The initial point of the movement was to get roads in the region, and actual Statehood might have eventually happened had Pearl Harbor not happened. That day the new state idea got put aside. The region got roads out of the publicity and out of the war effort. The area still has a distinct culture apart from CA and OR. It is more in the 'cool history' column than the kooky column.
These people are more than kooky, they are KKKooky, racist fucking nutters. South CA, they call it, excluding LA yet including Mono, which is as far north as SF. Crazy people. Racist people. Nasty, awful people who are not trying to get roads to a rural region, for example.
