The Center is a home space for many peace and social justice groups in conservative Fresno. If you are in the area please stop by and visit. :)
Dear Friends of the Center: Several things about our Fair Trade program I want to pass on to you.
First: Equal Exchange (from whom we buy our coffee, chocolate, tea etc.) has a new program. Each month they will feature a particular coffee and sell it to us for $1.00 less, as long as we promise to pass on that savings to our members.
So, I’ve signed up for this and this month’s coffee is French Roast drip. This has been our most popular one and so it will be on sale until we run out of it for $7.50 a 10 oz package. Our usual charge is $8.50. I hope that many of you will come in soon and take advantage of this savings.
Second: I want to tell you also about a new coffee that is being made available soon through Equal Exchange. They are proud to announce a new African coffee blend which will benefit the Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a nation wracked by violence and war, the Panzi Hospital provides life saving treatment to more than 2,000 victims of sexual violence each year, as well as continual care and counseling. This coffee from their East African farmer partners, and its packaging, will highlight the roles that women play as mothers, sisters, daughters and farmers. For every bag of coffee sold, Equal Exchange will donate $1 to the Panzi Foundation.
Third: Fair Trade Organic Olive Oil from the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC) is now being offered to us. This is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that works to increase the economic viability of small scale farming. It helps olive growers compete in the export market, supports women’s economic empowerment, and promotes sustainable growing practices. If you would be interested in buying your olive oil from us, would you please let me know? I’d like to get an idea how many people would be interested. If we buy a case of 12, we could offer it to you for $13.50 a bottle. Retail cost is $15.99.

I regularly get both this coffee brand and the Olive Oil here in Minneapolis.
The coffee is sold in our local co-op grocery stores and is run by a christian non-profit that is true fair trade. They deal directly with the farmers.
The Olive Oil is the best I have ever had, and it too comes right from the farmers.
The Center for Non Violence is on the corner of McKinley and Van Ness.
