State Sen. Carole Migden said her vote for the next chair of the Democratic National Committee had weighed on her mind for weeks until Tuesday, when she endorsed former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

Migden, the tough-talking Democrat from San Francisco, wants a party leader who will raise money and raise hell, "draw a crowd and pound the drum'' to get Democrats elected in 2008.

Migden's dilemma about the next choice to lead Democrats has been shared in recent weeks by the 447 voting members of the Democratic National Committee, who will make their formal decision Feb. 12 for the next national committee chairman.
