pros and cons of recalling Arnold?
My pros:

Potentially get him out of office

Even if it fails, if it's a high profile effort, it could put stink on him for re-election.

Even if it fails, it could put stink on him for national office.

If it succeeds, it would DEFINITELY damage him for pursuing higher office if not knock that off the table.

2. If it fails he would be entrenched
You think * is bad about the people "approving his vision" imagine that bastard Ahnold. Also, if we would use the same tactics that Issa used to collect the signatures (paying for them) the media would crucify us. The best fight against Ahnold is going to be his own record. Conservatives nationwide would never vote for him once they get past the movie star persona.

5. Failure wouldn't be an option....
You don't initiate a recall unless you think you have a good chance of winning. And with Ahnold's "popularity", I just don't think its possible.

Do you think the Pubs would have tried this if Davis wasn't unpopular?

Also there's the hypocrite factor, too many prominent Dems and Dem organizations rallied against the recall in principle(a stupid tactic in hindsight).

Trying to get Ahnold out will likely have to wait until 2006.

12. Arnold isn't THAT popular dude. That's a media construct
If he were as popular as they lead you to believe, his hand picked guy he campaigned for would have made *some* kind of showing against Barbara Boxer. Instead she emerged as the largest vote getter in the election after Kerry and Bush, running to the left as an avowed liberal. If Arnold were as popular as we were led to believe, Bush would have carried the State.

No, I sincerely doubt that Arnold could win a straight-up vote for governor without the party being split among candidates.

I think we have a real chance in the afterglow of Arnold's misconduct and the scenery he painted melting away.

Let's recall this bozo. We can get the million bucks I bet.

14. "that Arnold could win a straight-up vote for governor...

It was his party that was split. McClintock got quite a few votes and you can bet your ass that the RW wurlitizer would go full bore during any recall situation.

"If Arnold were as popular as we were led to believe, Bush would have carried the State."

He doesn't have to be THAT popular to survive a recall.

Davis was down to the 20's in approval rating and he made decent showing. Ahnold in at least in the 50's.

7. I would feel hypocritical
I have had a strong, bipartisan dislike for recalls since 2003. One of the main things regarding Arnold Schwarzenegger that bothered me, as well as most anti-2003-recall people I talked to, was how he got into office. Gray Davis had just gotten elected fair and square, and Darrell Issa used his money and Schwarzenegger's fame to overturn the will of the November 2002 voters. If there was going to be a recall, it should have just been a "Yes" or "No" vote, with the replacement selected at another time. I believe a lot of voters may have voted to recall Davis just to get a famous movie star in office, and not because of Davis's performance.

Was if the governor is recalled, the Lt. governor becomes governor.

13. and the problem with that logic is that Gray Davis had to win a majority
... of votes to stay in office. He couldn't just win a plurality like Arnold needed to win the "recall ballot" and wasn't allowed on that ballot either.

Now if a recall is started against Arnold successfully and Arnold sues to be on the recall ballot and wins, then the courts could throw out his original recall election and say that Davis was similarly robbed of his rights to run on the recall ballot and therefore the election was invalid.

The problem is that this process is inherently undemocratic. If we want to show the repukes that it is and that it needs to be ammended, what better way than to show how it can work against them in a similar fashion that it worked "for" them earlier. Then we might get some bipartisan efforts in the legislature to fix it so that only real elections can select our governor instead, and that the recall process is reserved for what it was originally intended for, which is when an elected official is found guilty of criminal activities or something equivalent that makes him unsuitable for office. Davis forced to live with a budget to pay for the other welfare states by the feds wasn't a crime on his part. It was a crime by Bush and the Rethugs in Washington.

15. An unsuccessful recall effort will only make Arnold look more popular
Pro-gun advocates tried to recall Diane Feinstein when she was Mayor of San Fransisco. After winning the recall election, she was reelected.

17. Not before the vote - - Before the signature gathering
A recall should not be attempted unless you are pretty sure that is will succeed. If not, you're only going to make things worse.
