Would it be possible to have a referendum re: BBV?
I'm sort of new to California so I'm not up on these sort of processes, but couldn't we gather enough signatures to get a demand for a paper trail (and other election protections) on the ballot? If they did this to recall the governor, couldn't we try the same process as well? I would think we could get enough signatures easily.
With Shelley gone, I fear for our voting process.

1. Well, let's see...
we get enough signatures to get it on the ballot. Then it comes up for a vote... on paperless, nonverifiable Diebold machines.

I'd call this a joke, except it's no joke.

2. Not if it's tagged on to the "special election"
that Arnold has in mind for redistricting, or a special election that would recall his ass... I don't think McPherson could have updated the voting for that to Diebold just yet then. A proposition like this could help make a special election more valuable to us and put second thoughts into the Rethugs minds on whether such a special election is valuable to them, which could help force them to choose between doing redistricting without "cheatable voting machines", or to have "cheatable voting machines" without redistricting.

3. You may recall that verifiable machines
were not to be put into use until 2006. Don't know what you voted on in November, but I voted absentee--the votes were still tallied by a machine that couldn't be verified. There are plenty of machines already in use. Alameda and San Diego counties are a good example.

5. Why VVPB when you could just use PAPER
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 02:09 AM by sacxtra
Continuing on your thoughts... ( not yelling at you personally you seem to get it)

Why do these people keep suggesting ideas that all seem to involve the use of electronic devices?

Why would you need a Voter Verified Paper Ballot when you could just have a PAPER BALLOT all by it's friggin self!

I believe this WILL be the critical issue that will RUIN America.

The quickest test for good guys vs. bad guys SHOULD BE:

Should All Electronic Voting Devices be destroyed?

YES = Friend
No = Enemy

I don't care what political party you belong to. It's irrelevant now!

4. Anybody can propose a proposition on anything.
You could propose a law that would require the governor to wear a purple wig when performing official functions, and if you can get enough signatures you can have it placed on the ballot.

Personally, I have to wonder why nobody has proposed this yet.
