Rob Reiner for Gov?
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 11:33 AM by LVT
Schwarzenegger far in front in new tally
Among Democrats, Hollywood's Reiner leads state officers
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Friday, February 25, 2005

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is still the strong first choice of state voters in the next election for governor, but a surprising front-runner has emerged among his potential Democratic challengers -- movie director and producer Rob Reiner, a Field Poll released today shows.

Schwarzenegger, who has not yet said whether he'll run for re-election in 2006, was backed for a second term by a solid 56 percent of those surveyed, according to the Field Poll of 800 registered state voters taken Feb. 8-17.

Asked who they would support to challenge the GOP governor, 1 in 5 Democratic primary voters said Reiner, followed by Attorney General Bill Lockyer with 17 percent, state Treasurer Phil Angelides with 12 percent and Controller Steve Westly with 8 percent. Without Reiner in the race, the 376 Democrats surveyed preferred Lockyer, who received 20 percent support, followed by Angelides at 15 percent, Westly at 11 percent and the remainder undecided, the poll showed.

"It's a comfortable lead for Schwarzenegger, but you're seeing, in this poll, greater partisanship,'' said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo. "Democrats are not giving Schwarzenegger great support -- just 25 percent ... while Republicans are almost unanimous in their support of him.''

I love Rob Reiner. Do you think he would be a good choice to go up agianst arnie? Is this something we should really push?

Kadie, using my hubby's ID. Too lazy to log out and in again. LOL

1. NO! Rob Reiner is a joke to many Dems and is completely not liked
in spite of his advocacy.

3. Really?
I have not heard too much feed back about him. Is he too "left" or what makes him a "joke". Thanks for the input.

6. That is too bad.
I know several people, including my son, that benefited from the programs that tax provided. I think many times people just hear about the tax, then they don't hear about the programs that are available because of it.

12. Lost me.
A carton went to $40+ from about $18. I view him as an uninformed zealot.

More importantly, at such a crucial time, I think it's foolish to recruit actors. Look what the last two have wreaked upon us.

Wish someone could convince Leon Panetta to run.

28. If Ahnold wasn't an actor himself you might have a point
But he is, so what difference does it make?

15. Not with me
My son was in his mid teens at the time that went through and had taken up smoking. It was entirely a peer group thing; neither I nor his mother smoke. One day I found a book of matches in the house with the Cigarettes Cheaper logo printed on it. Cigarettes Cheaper is a chain of retail stores that -- you guessed it -- sells cigarettes cheaper; it was this outfit that put us through a useless election in a failed attempt to repeal the tax.

John Roscoe, the owner of Cigarettes Cheaper, asked if we Californians wanted Rob Reiner raising our children for us. My thoughts were that Roscoe should shut his f***ing mouth and stop making it more difficult for me to raise my own kid by locating his legalized dope peddling business in every other shopping center in Napa.

Rob Reiner's activism against smoking meets with my approval. I know there are some who might not feel the same way.

23. So who would the"Dingbat" support?
Someone should find the actress who played Edith and get her to do a commercial, ie, I may be dumb but even I can see what a lying pack of scum Arnold really is.

Interested in Politics. good looking, smart, rich. I like Angelides , but Personality, looks, Charisma? Garamendi seems more electable to me. I loOOVE Jackie Speier, but I like her to replace Dianne.

It would be interesting because while Arnold killed the Predator in the first movie, Danny Glover did the creature in the second.

If we flood the elections with Democratic stars, maybe the mindless Republican actors will go back to show business.

26. There are many political figures in California that would make
fine governors and who have political savvy and experience. Why would we want another actor or show biz type? I do agree that we have to get someone up there with charisma who can outshine Governor Grabass's celebrity glitz. Damn, we need Bill Clinton or somebody similar. That was the trouble with Davis. He was too colorless I guess for the shallow Californians who voted for Ahnold.

27. Lockyer won't run, Angelides is going to, Westly won't against Arnie
That leaves the field fairly open still.
I still think a big name Dem actor could
run it if Arnie's numbers start going
down again. The trouble is until today
when Angelides said he's running (and
he's not the best candidate), no one
else will run if Arnie's running.
And forget Lockyer, he won't run.

As long as this the the thread to suggest what Democratic movie star we should run for governor against the Republican movie star currently in the slot, someone should suggest Warren Beatty.
