What happened to Colorado?
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 04:47 PM by coloradodem2004
We used to be a more schizophrenic state. We were a red state in most presidential elections. But up until 1994, we usually had a Democratic Senator. I know that at least from 1974 to 1998, we have had a Democratic Governor. 12 years of Dick Lamm and 12 years of Roy Romer. The Congressional representatives from our state were split more evenly between Democrats and Republicans. Now, we have an overwhelming majority of Republican Congresspeople. THey are all wingnuts too. Two Republican senators. And a Republican governor who ranks among the worst governors in the United States as far as I am concerned. I am ashamed of this state sometimes.

1. There is a chance
you will get a decent democratic senator. Salazer has a good chance to win. I hope he beats Coors.

2. God, I hope so.
I also hope we can win the state races and the congressional races. I think John Salazar will take CD 3. I hope Matsunaka will beat Musgrave, Conti will beat Tancredo and Thomas will beat Beauprez.

4. Salazar
will win the Senate race.

The other Salazar will definitely win District 3.

Thomas has a great chance in District 7.

Matsunaka is in a dead heat against Musgrave and has a good chance as well. This will be a historic election in Colorado.

5. Ben Nightmare Campbell was elected as a Democrat
He ran on his Indian heritage and as a Democrat. He got into office and promptly switched parties.

Colorado tried to elect a Democratid senator. They got a lying sack of crap instead.

7. Just a gentle FYI - He didn't switch "promptly"
He was Senator for some time and chairman of his Senate committee. Then when we lost our majority during those mid term elections in Clinton's term, BN-H made a deal with the GOP. He switches parties and gets to keep his chairmanship. At least that's the skinny I read on the net some time ago. It was a self serving deal from where I sit. I bet if we'd maintained our majority, he would still be a Dem.

Hmmm... makes me speculate. Maybe he's sniffed out the potential of Dems regaining the lead now and is getting out to save face? I hope so!!!

10. Is this what you're referring to?
Campbell's office was rocked last month when it was alleged that a longtime aide had been taking kickbacks. The senator reported the matter to the Senate ethics committee.

At issue are allegations from former staffer Brian Thompson. He claims chief of staff Ginnie Kontnik gave him bonuses with an understanding that he would return $2,000 to her so she could pay a lawyer handling her divorce.

Campbell said he knew Thompson was receiving bonuses, but if money was given back to Kontnik, it happened without his knowledge.

I haven't followed this that closely. Only what I read and heard...local news. On the surface it seems like something he could have rode out, but maybe there is more to it than this? I recall something about giving financial help to a campaign donor, or sumtin'? Don't remember clearly.

11. I don't recall the entire story
but my sense was that he was misusing public funds on a much larger scale. Chairman Gates fed the story to the press. About a week later, he dropped out.

I moved to Colorado in April of 1995. Ben(edict Arnold) Nightmare Campbell moved over to the dark side before I got here.
