Background - Colorado is served by 60 utilities that generate electricity using primarily coal and natural gas. Only 2 percent of our electricity currently comes from renewable energy sources. The initiative will require the states seven largest utilities to get 10 percent of the electricity from renewable sources by 2015.

Why does Renewable Energy Make Sense for Colorado :

Energy Security -

It is time to prepare for the future by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas because those resources will run out.
Using abundant renewable sources of fuel like the wind and sun will reduce our dependence on unstable foreign energy. Conversely, using more natural gas today will increase our dependence on Middle East sources in the future.


Cost -

Do you believe the cost of fossil fuels will go down in the next 20 years?Of course not!
While those costs rise, the price for renewable energy such as wind and solar will continue to fall through better technology. …and the fuel is FREE ! We must start now

1. My only concern with this one

...is that it doesn't seem to have anything in it to "assist" (force) the energy companies in finding ways to make such energy profitable. Without incentives to do otherwise, wouldn't the energy companies just pass along the costs, not bothering with sustainability, until consumers got so ticked off they could claim the amendment was a flop?
