Wal Mart pulls plug on Northwest Denver store
From the Denver Daily News -

Contracor Chuck Perry told neighborhood residences at a community meeting that Wal Mart representatives pulled the plug on a proposed store at 38th Ave and Wolf (Elitch Gardens old location), largely due to market concerns.

"It was a complete shock", said city councilman Rick Garcia, "It wasn't unbelievable, it was nonbelievable".

The proposed store had created a swarm of controversy and protest in the Highlands Neighborhood.

etc.

I hope this stays true - this is the best news in years! Congrats to the Highland/Tennyson area for keeping these assholes out! Hopefully the Elitch site can now move forward with some real neighborhood development.

3. actually,Rick Garcia was opposed to Wal Mart

The quote from the article is kind of strange - but "Denver Daily News" is kind of right wing editorially - so maybe they did that on purpose. I had a letter published there once where they actually screwed up the punctuation to change the meaning of what I'd written.
