Beauprez backlash.
Ad sparks backlash
Beauprez feels heat over figures used to target Jeffco DA
By Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News
October 5, 2004

A television ad and a new mailing slamming Jefferson County District Attorney Dave Thomas for his prosecution of DUI cases is triggering a rebound of criticism against his opponent, incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez.

"Drunk driving. 265 killed in Colorado. What's done about it?" That's the question on the face of a flier mailed this week to voters in Colorado's 7th Congressional District.

On the flip side, voters get this answer: "Over 2,000 DUI plea bargains or dismissals! That's the Dave Thomas record on DUIs in a single year!"

<snip>

But not mentioned in the ad is that in the year examined, July 1, 2002, to June 30, 2003, Boulder County led all counties in DUI plea bargains by offering deals 94 percent of the time. The statewide average, according to the same study, was 80 percent.

The article states that Jefferson County was below the state average, but that is not mentioned in the anti-Thomas handbill.

The flier's fine print reads, "Paid for by the Colorado Republican Committee."

1. Beauprez is a putz...
I absolutely loathe that man and everything he stands for. The only people in his district who get anything even remotely resembling representation in Washington are the ones who think Tom DeLay is just 'misunderstood.' :puke: Other than that, if you're unfortunate enough to reside in District 7 right now and are anywhere left of Mussolini on the political spectrum, you can say firsthand that you know what it's like to live the "taxation without representation" nightmare. To illustrate, there was an article in the Rocky Mountain News (ugh) at the end of July that stated:

"Based on 55 votes in which the White House expressed an opinion, Beauprez sided with the administration 98 percent of the time, according to annual rankings in Congressional Quarterly.

A comparison with Colorado's other GOP House members shows Rep. Tom Tancredo voted with the administration 84 percent of the time, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, 85 percent; Rep. Scott McInnis, 94 percent; and Rep. Joel Hefley, 85 percent."

Ohhhhhh, I hope, I hope, I hope Dave Thomas beats Beauprez -- he seriously needs to be sent crawling back under the rock from whence he came.

2. Hopefully Thomas will defeat him.
The stupid thing was that the Rocky Mountain News endorsed Beauprez. Though they expressed annoyance at the lack of truth about Thomas.
