I just finished taking copies down to my local Soops, and showed them to a couple of the employees Ive come to know over the years. They were very touched, and a couple had tears in their eyes. I URGE all of you to take acoupe of minutes to write..... it may not change the outcome, but.... who knows, it just might.
I'd appreciate it if you would post your letters here, so that I may print them also and take them to my local store. It really does help them to know they have support!!
Thank you very much for helping with this!
the letter..........
Russ Dispense President King Soopers INC. P.O. Box 5567 Denver, CO 80217-9641
Dear Mr. Dispense,
The other day I was driving down the highway when I was passed by one of your trucks. On the side, in very large letters, was the wording "Our People Make The Difference". I thought again how true that is, and how many years ago I discovered the depth of that truth.
It was over 30 years ago, and I was in a King Soopers when my blood sugar suddenly dropped. One of the clerks saw me, and apparently I looked awful, because she went to get me a chair to sit down, then got some milk for me to drink to raise my blood sugar level. Now, it's not very many stores where one gets this sort of kind attention, even 30 years ago! It was that day that I promised myself to always shop in King Soopers, and I have ever since.
I have continued to experience that sort of kindness and effort above and beyond the call of duty in King Soopers employees, so my loyalty is steadfast.
So, I must now challenge you…… if you really believe that slogan, and value your employees because they DO make a difference, then I must ask you to carefully rethink your position of trying to reduce the benefits and pay of your employees. I'm sure I'm not the only customer who holds your employees in such high esteem, and I can tell you that I know there are many others who are very upset that King Soopers is doing this to such fine people.
People cannot continue to "Make a Difference" when they are treated with such disrespect, and not valued for the fine work they perform.
I don't want to receive some well-worded brush- off…….. I want to know that you take this seriously, and will NOT put your employees in such a bad position. THEY are the ones doing the hard work, day in and day out, NOT your stockholders.
Very sincerely,
