2. Can't remember the Buttmunch's name
I don't live in Colorado anymore, but after the Columbine massacre all sorts of wackos said all sorts of things.

Anyway, in the 2000 legislative session, this state senator I'm thinking of wanted to put the 10 Commandments in every classroom. His motive was the 10 Commandments in classrooms would have prevented Columbine.

3. John Andrews?
A big omission from this list. At least he is term limited and won't be running for anything this year.

4. This keeps coming up. It's the American Family Foundation who pushes it.
Add to list: Debbie Stafford from Aurora and the blithering idiot who dreamed up that travesty that is TABOR.

Last year, it was forcing the Pledge of Allegiance (which is forced speech, and a big no-no) of every child, but for religious reasons (so children of foreign nationals who happened to work here would be forced to pledge, too,). This went down in some flames, came back as a purely optional, we won't punish you if you don't, (in otherwords, worthless( law that passed.

Year before that, it was putting up "In God We Trust" plaques... in a state that's 33% non-religious or not judeo-christian-muslim. :eyes: That one died.

Colorado politics is so much like Texas, but with snow....

Pcat.

6. Douglas Bruce is responsible for TABOR.
Edited on Fri May-07-04 01:58 PM by MissMarple
He wants to strangle effective government and destroy the schools. The part about schools was mentioned in a letter to the editor in the Colorado Springs Gazette a year or so ago. The writer was quoting a supporter of Dougie's.

Oops, Co Liberal already answered.

5. There Are a Bunch Of Them Around Colorado Springs
Edited on Fri May-07-04 10:06 AM by CO Liberal
James Dobson - head of Focus On The Family

Tom Todesco - local head of the American Family Assn who constantly phones in to local talk shows to show what an idiot he is.

Mary Ann Tebedo - former legislator who once said that teen pregnancy rates tend to go down after age 25.

Ed Bircham - local office machine dealer who puts ads in the paper every week that show how ugly and ignorant he is.

Douglas Bruce - local lawyer and slumlord who was responsible for TABOR.

Will Perkins - local car dealer who was a driving force behind Amendment 2, which sought to deny rights to gays (never enacted, eventually ruled unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court).

Mike McKee - local Jesus freak who wears sackcloth and ashes and protests the Gay Pride Parade every year.

Betty Beddy - former County Commissioner who called welfare mothers "sluts".

I could go on, but you get the idea....

7. Our current idiot king of the week is Tom Huffman.
There is something seriously wrong with the way that guy thinks. I hope it's true he's moving to Arizona.

8. There Have Been Other Gems As Well
Such as City Councilman Charles Wingate, who used a city credit card to order pizzas and then lied about it, then stole some city computer equipment and a clock from another councilperson's office and pawned them.

And what about State Senator Ed Jones, who was in that sleazy Leonard's II bar when cocaine deals were going down and never saw anything?

:-)

9. How about Jon Andrews?
President of the State Senate who imported David Horowitz from California to push his Acedemic Bill of Rights on the colleges. Of course it only garauntees the rights of conservatives. He also saw to it that the College Republicans were protected to snitch and whine about every percieved slight.

The worst case of a proffesor persecuting a student I have heard is Jaunus Pike at UNC having a student's home computer confiscate on a libel charge because he posted a site of Pike with a hitler mustache. The thing is Pike's a conservative and got his position by being a friend of the Monforts.

12. I Mentioned Him in Post #5
I refuse to use "Dr." in front of his name because that's a term of respect, and I have no respect whatsoever for that asshole.

It's the same reason that I've never referred to Dubya as "president". When I refer to Bush on the afternoon talk show on KVOR in Colorado Springs, I usually call him an "addle-minded, alcoholic, cokehead buffoon", which really gets the host, Dr. Joseph Michelli, all pissed off. :-)

11. My choices for Repub Idiots
Jon Caldara from the Independence Institute has come up with some SPOOKY suggestions...he is behind almost anything that attacks public education.

I want to second the earlier vote for state Sen. Bruce Cairns. He won his primary with a real sleazy campaign against a relatively moderate (and honestly thoughtful) Republican named Gary McPherson.

13. I Forgot David Schultheis
James Dobson brought him here to run for the State Assembly, because Dobson was sick of being represented by Marcy Morrison, a moderate Republican. Schultheis proceeded to introduce what became known as the "Dr. Laura" bill, which would have required couples to go through a year of counselling before they could get a divorce.

16. Oh, but there's more . . .
. .

Rep. Keith King, foe of public ed and the man who's never met a voucher or charter school he couldn't support.

Mark Paschall, former Rep. and current County Treasurer for Jeffco. A complete idiot if there ever was one. And a religious fundie to boot - he led one of those RW prayers in the Gen. Assembly a few years back.

Mike Rosen - surely someone mentioned him? Colorado's answer to Rush Limbaugh.

Al Knight - Post columnist and RW homophobe. You can always count on a diatribe from Al whenever gays are in the news.

(Dr.) Paul Cameron - another homophobe kook from Sedalia. He's the one who compiles all that garbage about gays eating feces and crap (no pun intended).

Cardinal Stafford - or Cardinal Toady, if you prefer. Formerly from CO, elevated to post at Vatican few years ago.

man the list goes on and on.
