Latest poll shows support for Amendment 36 falling

DENVER - This Novembers, Colorado voters are being asked whether the state should change how it counts Electoral College votes.

The proposal, known as Amendment 36, would have Colorado's electoral votes allocated based on the percentage of votes a presidential candidate receives. Currently, who ever wins a majority of votes receives all of the state's nine Electoral College votes.

According to a Survey USA poll for 9NEWS, opposition to this proposal has grown since the last poll two weeks ago. In the poll of 513 likely voters taken this week, 55 percent of the respondents were opposed to Amendment 36 and just 38 percent were in favor. Seven percent were undecided.

Supporters of Amendment 36 say it would ensure every vote counts. Opponents say that it would be changing the rules during the game since it would be retroactive to this election. They also say any changes to the Electoral College system should take place on a national level. Currently, Maine and Nebraska are the only two states that don't use a "winner-takes-all" system.
