Why is Mark Udall showing up at a fundraiser for Bob Beauprez?
Here is a brief excerpt from Peter Blake's column in Saturday's Rocky Mountain News:

Blake: Udall pops in for lunch with potential rival Beauprez

February 26, 2005

Democratic Rep. Mark Udall showed up and made nice at a fund-raiser for Republican congressional colleague Bob Beauprez this week. . . .

Meanwhile, Udall is considered by his congressional caucus to be running for re-election and has been named a "recruitment whip" by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for the 2006 cycle. That primarily means finding someone to run against Beauprez - should he decide to seek re-election.

Shouldn't Udall be helping Peggy Lamm raise money in her race against Bob Beauprez?

3. Peggy Lamm
Peggy Lamm is the former State Representative who is the likely Democratic challenger to Bob Beauprez in 2006. She has a shot at winning that seat, which has a slight Democratic edge in voter registration, if she can raise enough money.

Mark Udall is supposed to be helping her, not her Republican opponent.

4. Hopefully she will do far better than Dave Thomas did.
Hopefully there is no connection to Columbine or something else damaging.

6. Peggy Lamm
No connection to Columbine. Peggy Lamm was co-chair of the commission that investigated the allegations of sexual harassment at the University of Colorado. She is also the ex-sister-in-law of former Gov. Lamm. (Her ex-husband is former Gov. Lamm's brother.)

She served one or two terms in the State House.

5. I'm sure it was just a courtesy
and that he wasn't helping him raise money.

7. Just wait
Just wait until Beauprez uses the pictures of him and Udall taken at the fundraiser in Beauprez's 2006 commercials. In a swing district, that could help Beauprez garner enough Democratic votes to get re-elected.
