BOULDER - Salary talks between Boulder Valley School District administrators and teachers collapsed Friday despite a mediator's attempts to bring the two frustrated sides together.
Boulder Valley Superintendent George Garcia said the district has taken the unusual step of asking the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to intervene and halt an informally organized work stoppage. . . .
Boulder Valley Education Association President Mike Altenbern said the union is discussing setting a strike date and is even evaluating the radical prospect of teaming up with parents and turning all district schools into charter schools.

Under the law, the district wouldn't have to share any accumulated fund balance or bond funding with the charters. There's a reason most charter schools have salary schedules considerably LOWER than the regular district.
