Dear Colorado Democrats,
I have had the great pleasure of knowing many of you for years and have met even more of you over the past two months as I've traveled throughout the state. With so many good people working so hard for our Party, it was a great honor to be elected as your new State Party Chair.

We campaigned on building an aggressive, inclusive grassroots-based State Party. And you responded by saying that this is the vision we all share. Now we have a lot of work to do.
At the State Central Committee meeting we passed out strategic planning packets to all the County Chairs that were still there at the end of the day. If you are a County Chair and did not receive one, please call the state office and make sure we have an updated address for you. We are on a fast track to put in place our state plan, and we want to make sure that it reflects yours.

After we receive your input, a strategic planning committee will synthesize the results. You will see the whole plan in draft form and have an opportunity to approve it. However, this all needs to be done quickly. If you are in a smaller county, please consider clustering with a group of counties to do your brainstorming. Also, we need a specific list from you of what you need from the State Party in terms of training and other assistance.

Despite all the media rhetoric about whether we are liberal, moderate or conservative, the fact is that we Democrats can lay claim to a broad spectrum of political viewpoints. What counts most is that we care about people, their communities and their environment. There is room for all of us in this great Party. It is not about a specific candidate or a specific philosophy. It is about working together for a stronger, more inclusive Party.

I look forward to working with you in the days ahead so that we secure the gains we made last fall, add Congressional Districts 7 and 4 to our side and all of the statewide offices, starting with the Governor's Office in 2006.
