Check out Bob Ewegen's column in the Denver Post today on the Colorado governor's race. He echoes a lot of the things we've been saying here at Colorado Pols for a long time, namely that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper would be the strongest Democratic candidate and that Congressman Bob Beauprez isn't likely to run for governor.
Ewegen does mention that former Congressman Scott McInnis might be interested, but as we told you here this week, he's telling others that he won't run for public office in 2006 and we believe him.
One other point that merits mentioning: Ewegen touches on his former claim that it is better to be Denver Mayor than Governor because you have more direct power as mayor. That may be true, but the governor still has much more power than the mayor because of indirect power - things like appointments, vetoes, and generally just being able to use the office as a bully pulpit. The governor will always be more powerful than the Denver mayor, and being the governor opens up more future offices than being the mayor does
