Republican Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave lashed out at her party on Friday, taking aim at the “tax and spend” wing of the GOP. "Sometimes we feel like the Republican Party has lost its soul," she said of herself and like-minded GOPers. "We need to work harder and energize Republicans to get back on track."

According to the Rocky Mountain News:

Before the conference began, there was much eye-rolling about a Friday newspaper article describing a Republican news conference a day earlier. At the event, two Republicans said that without a same-sex marriage ban in the state constitution, Colorado could see unions of humans with animals, and school funding and prisons could be affected. Some conservatives said those statements made the party look ridiculous.

Musgrave’s comments illustrate what appears to be becoming a trend in our state that could have a lot to do with the 2006 elections. The Republican Party is becoming a punchline in Colorado, and if Democrats are smart enough to take advantage and get the word out to the public, it could be a long time before elephants are back in charge at the zoo.

Before the angry comments start coming, take a step back and take a look. Your reaction will likely be the same as ours here at Colorado Pols when we observe the Republicans: “What the hell are they doing?”
