CD7 Candidate Peggy Lamm's hole getting deeper.

The publisher of the Colorado Statesman has spoken up about Democratic CD-7 candidate Peggy Lamm's laughably absurd excuse for having publicly supported Governor Bill Owens in 2002 when he was fighting off Democratic challenger Rollie Heath.

Last week we wrote about Lamm's bumbling response to the Owens accusations, when she claimed to have made supportive statements in response to a caller to her home who she didn't know, but suspected to be running a push poll. As we wrote then:

Even if this is the truth, what in the hell is she doing using it as her rationale? Lamm is no stranger to politics, so she should have known how this was going to sound. Why didn't she just say that she was abducted by aliens who made her praise Bill Owens, under threat of an anal probe?

Well, according to Jodi Strogoff, editor and publisher of the Statesman, Lamm's excuse was not only silly, it was untrue. From The Rocky Mountain News:


More on the 7th District race: Jody Strogoff, editor-publisher of The Colorado Statesman, says it was her, not an anonymous push-poller, to whom Peggy Lamm spoke on the phone in 2002. And she identified herself. Lamm said in Wednesday's column she didn't know to whom she spoke. She was quoted in the Statesman praising Gov. Bill Owens. For this Lamm has been condemned by Bill Thiebaut, a supporter of 7th District rival Ed Perlmutter.
