Wanna Protest the Chimp in Colorado Jun 1? Here's your chance!

Dear all Denver Democrats,

Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 1st), George W. Bush will be visiting Colorado. Most people know this, and know that he will be giving a speech at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. A lesser-known fact is that Dubya will also be here in Denver, tomorrow night, to attend a fundraiser for his campaign. This fact has not been publicized and few people seem to know he will be right here in Denver. In response to this information, I have been working with Ted Gleichmann and others to organize a mass protest. I am sending this email to inform you of the protest and to encourage you to spread the word.

Bush's fundraiser is being held at 3400 Belcaro Drive, at the Phipps Mansion/Tennis Pavilion. Police are there already, setting up barricades and whatnot, so obviously we will not be allowed anywhere near the president. Instead we will be assembling on the public sidewalks of both East Exposition Avenue and University, with signs, informational literature, and basically anything we can get put together before tomorrow. If you want to join the peaceful protest, come on down and bring whatever anti-Bush, pro-Democrat stuff you have available. We will be meeting at 4:30 on the sidewalk in front of Knight Fundamental Academy, a DPS elementary school, and will spread out from there to achieve high visibility during rush hour. We plan to be in this area from 4:30 till around 8 pm, so anytime you could come down would be greatly appreciated. There is some public parking available.

If you can't make it, or choose not to, but support the protest, please help out by spreading the word to anyone and everyone you know who might want to join in. We have an opportunity here to stage a protest against our appointed "president," and I'd like to think that with enough dedicated people combining their efforts, we can make a statement that will be hard to ignore.

1. Thanks for posting this notice. It was quite an experience!

A very interesting crowd....... even met a couple visiting from California. :)

The cops were out of control, and I decided I won't attend these sorts of protests again unless I know that CopWatch will be there. It was so absurd --- they were quite unnecessarily aggressive and just plain beligerant. We've definitely lost our country.

When Bushwa's motorcade passed by, I could tell that they were looking out the windows, but of course, couldn't see *'s face, but they were all looking, so I'm sure they saw and heard us. There were people with some very imaginative signs.

What was most encouraging, and raised our spirits was how many passing cars honked, waved, gave the peace sign, and were smiling broadly. We could tell that we raised *their* spirits just by being there. At one point, all the honking got rather noisy. :)

Some time after the motorcade passed, all the reich wingers came by, waving their one-finger salutes. Such intelligence.
