Straight eye for beer guy

Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Bob Schaffer continued his more-conservative-than-thou mantra by taking primary rival Pete Coors to task for his company's gay-friendly stance.
In weekend mailing on three issues - taxes, immigration and family values - Schaffer quotes a 1999 American Prospect article lauding Coors Brewing Co. as " 'one of the most GAY FRIENDLY companies in the nation' for granting benefits to SAME-SEX couples." (Capital letters compliments of the campaign.)
The mailing comes before the Republican state convention on Saturday, when the two candidates will vie for the top spot on the Aug. 10 primary ballot. It's an attempt - a desperate one, according to Coors spokeswoman Cinamon Watson - to distinguish between two candidates who seldom disagree publicly.
On Wednesday, Watson criticized the former congressman's mailing as "smear tactics," adding, "there are thousands of votes that Bob Schaffer has cast that we could certainly tear apart."
