Beauprez Goes CAFTA
Congressman Bob Beauprez made an interesting move on Saturday with his op-ed piece in the Rocky Mountain News supporting DR-CAFTA (no, not the supplemental insurance).

...the House of Representatives will vote next week on DR-CAFTA, the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement.

I support DR-CAFTA because it would expand the market for U.S. goods to the 44 million consumers in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica and would level the playing field for U.S. workers by immediately dropping tariffs on 80 percent of U.S. exports entering those countries.

1. Sure
And NAFTA never caused offshoring. Stupid idea from greedy people. I'm beginning to hate baby boomers and their idea that they need more crap from the gov and not work for it.

2. CAFTA
Those 44 million consumers have less than 1 percent of the GDP the U.S. has. Central America's aggregate income is what creates a market, not the number of people. They are too poor to make any significant difference in U.S. exports to that area.

In contrast, they provide an excellent source of low-wage, semi-slave labor for Corporate America to tap into. Many of their workers make less that $2/day. What a bonanza for Corporate America. They may be able to replace 20 million American workers with CAFTA workers. This means increased profits for Corporate America, and reduced income for American workers.

Congressman Beauprez should take great pride in his sellout of American workers, and his support of the unbridled greed of Corporate America.
