Student Who Raped Classmates Wants To Be Marine
EAGLE, Colo. -- A former Eagle County high school student admitted Wednesday that he sexually assaulted two classmates in 2003 and his mother said he wants to join the Marines, the Vail Daily News reported.

The 17-year-old boy, who was not identified because of his age, reached a plea bargain with prosecutors and will be sentenced on Sept. 12.

He was released to his parent's custody after the guilty plea and was ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation before sentencing.

His mother said he is getting close to obtaining his GED and wants to join the Marines, the newspaper said.

9. The article says "he wants to be".
The Marines would never take him, he will probably have to serve his time in jail before he moves on in life.

As a former Marine, I resent your attitude. Do you think the guys all got together one morning and decided to invade Iraq? They were ordered to do a mission by the civilian command authority. They are the same Marines that followed President Clintons orders. The Marine corps doesn't make policy, they follow orders.

But as I pointed out, this kid isn't ever going to be a Marine so it is a moot point.

18. I agree, the Marines won't
voluntarily take him. It is disrepsectful to imply the Marines would WANT him.

It is my HOPE that the Pentagon, in its quest to fill the ranks won't make exceptions.

I don't think you could find a marine, soldier sailor or airman who would want him.

Be fair folks.

avoid accountability, etc.

For those not fit to serve in the Marines, there is always a shady mercenary organization that will take them.

22. Define and Name "shady mercenary organization"...
Did you mean Halliburton or did you mean Al Qaeda? I'm pretty sure if he's too much of a felon to be accepted by the U.S. military services, he's going to spend his life in restaurants and construction sites...

15. "A few good men, my ass"
be careful using that phrase - some might take it literally, and think it's an invitation . . .

4. Whah? Would the marines even take him?
Would he be considered a convicted felon or something, and therefore ineligible? Or does this get wiped from his record at 18? I wish the article had gone into some of that, rather than just letting the monther's quote hang out there.

6. Recruiters have been helping kids get around their records.
It's not technically legal, but then again, neither was invading Iraq.

12. I don't think the Marines
have the same attitude as some other branches of the military.

Sure, they are gung ho, but they also tend to get their pick of the better recruits.

But I would be interested to hear the Marines respond to this, assuming he does try to enlist.

21. I actually agree with you on that point.
I believe (am not certain) that the Marines have actually had the best recruiting numbers, or at least seen the least damaging drop-off. Again, I could be 100% wrong about that, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Hmmm, maybe I oughta' go look that up.

11. I agree the tone of this thread is hostile...
Just cuz he want to join the Marines doesn't make the Marines bad. And there's a lot to be said for the services turning guys around. People make mistakes.

13. Marines
only rarely accept people with only a GED, so having that and a legal record is a double strike against him.
