Could Musgrave's CAFTA vote sink her in her district?
Grange Revenge?
Rep. Marilyn Musgrave can take credit for casting the decisive vote early this morning in favor of the Central American Free Trade Agreement. The 217-215 win was the result of tremendous last-minute pressure from the White House against individual swing votes. For all that, fully 25 Republicans voted against CAFTA—and 15 Democrats voted for it.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is describing that pressure as possibly illegal in its ferocity, but Musgrave expressed her intention to vote for CAFTA some months ago. Don't look for a surprise uptick in CD-4's appropriations or anything. Tom DeLay says that's all just a bunch of hogwash anyhow.

No, it's Rep. Musgrave's rural, agricultural constituents, most of whom have voted Republican faithfully since the 19th century but bitterly opposed CAFTA for self-evident reasons, who are going to remember her vote. Alot of sugar-beet farmers out there on the prairie are upset this evening, we hear—and as much as they don't approve of gay marriage, there are rumbling questions about whose interests Musgrave really has at heart.

3. Strange that when you elect some to represent your interests...
they end up actually representing the party's interests...

Someone (read "MANY people") needs to be un-elected for this one...

4. If we use this right...
This one vote could be used to savage Musgrave most effectively in the hands of another republican during a combative primary. Ideally she wins her primary but loses a lot of respect among her constituents. THEN, we bring in our moderate Democrat, whomever he or she may be, who has always lived in her district and whose interests are more closely aligned to the needs of that district than the needs of the nationwide republican party. So who is the other republican? And most importantly, who is our democrat? Let's get started finding these people now...

angie paccione is fantastic. i've had a few chances to talk with her, but i can already hear the smear against her, which is the one they used in the last election...

so what that she's from new york? they know how to get shit done out there. she's intelligent and articulate, two of the most important things a candidate needs to get my attention

5. This is HUGE. She worries about gays at the courthouse but betrays the
sugar beet farmers in the field.

These morons can stare at this pile of BS the conservatives left them. Its all the same to me. I'll have plenty of Central American sugar for my Cheerios after a night of hot gay sex.
