Might be moving to Boulder
I'm in shock! I have an interview IN Boulder on Monday, Sept. 12th for a great job. I have been looking for a job for the past three months, mostly in Houston, but also in the Denver/Boulder area because my sister lives in Lakewood.

I've been looking for potential housing, and it's EXPENSIVE in Boulder. I will probably have to do a roommate situation at first. Craigslist has been a great resource.

Can anyone give me any tips on moving from Florida to Colorado? I haven't lived in snow for 30 years, and have never driven in it, so I'm a bit nervous! But excited! Thanks.

Bella

1. Oh how I envy you. Boulder is wonderful but houses are very expensive.
If you go there, please have dinner at the Flagstaff House. It has the most wonderful view of the prairies viewed best on a night when the moon is full and the sky is clear.

:hi:

2. you can move outside of Boulder if you like
Lyons, broomfield, louisville, longmont, even Golden. Depends on what you want your drive time to be.

Don't have to worry about snow really until January...we get a little in the fall but not much. Fall is our best weather...January through April our heaviest snow.

3. Hi and good luck!
Hubby and I also live in Lakewood. But here's two more towns to look for housing. Arvada is quite close to Boulder and Wheat Ridge is another choice. WR is just south of Arvada between Lakewood and Arvada.

Here's a good way to take a look at the neighborhoods. http://earth.google.com/ Download the free program and you'll get the best closeups of the satellite pictures. You can see the lay of the land so to speak and the proximity of potential housing to shopping, large roads etc etc.

Best of luck on your interview and have a nice trip!

4. PM me....
I have a friend who is looking for a roomie - she's in her mid 30s, has a very cool 15 year old daughter, is a phlebotomist, and is looking in the Louisville/Lafayette area (where rents are cheaper.)

I'm in Lafayette, and I know that bussing to and from Boulder is very functional (we've been doing it for years!)

5. May sound silly but
I live in D/T Denver and the freeway flyer gets you to D/T Boulder in 45 minutes and it is fairly cheap if you buy a monthly pass ($135.00 ). You can get a nice 1 bedroom in D/T Denver for $500-600. You sound like you are single. All the areas recommended are bedroom communities and not much going on......

6. Yes I'm single
But I hate commuting. I would prefer to live in Boulder if I can find a place. I think I might have found one with a roommate situation. Now just to get the job on Monday!

Thanks to Owens trying to destroy CU.

You should be able to find a decent deal. School started so you may have missed the rush.

Seriously don't worry about the snow. We get one big storm a year and the rest of the time any fluries melt off in a couple days. Don't freak out and buy an SUV, just get a good 2 wheel drive car. The roads and parking are a bit cramped for anything big.

If you need to you can practice driving in snow in an empty parking lot.

9. I got the job!!!
I'll be moving to Boulder in two weeks, arriving around October 1st. Already found a place and am really excited about the move! My sister and nieces are even more excited than I am, I think!

Here's some pics of the reason I'm moving to Colorado. Who wouldn't want to see these two adorable girls grow up? These pics are from last year, I took a bunch more this weekend while I was there, just haven't edited them yet. Of course, the woman in the one photo is my sister.

11. I'd rather not...
Not that I don't trust you or anything... but I'm a single woman moving to a town where I don't know anyone except my sister (who lives 40 minutes away). So I'm sure you understand.

As a man, I tend not to think in such terms, I guess.

14. Gratz! and guess what?
You'll have a Democratic Congressman of your own by the name of Mark Udall and he's really cool, if you live in the Boulder area.. Just stay away from the 7th. That's Beauprez's turf. 6th is the insano Tancredo's turf. Depending on where you live..

15. Awesome!
I found a place pretty much in the center of Boulder. I even got an invite to the local women's media group already, so I am already making connections and friends before I even get there! I'm really excited about getting there -- not so excited about the actual move. Me and two elderly cats in a small pickup pulling a UHaul for four-five days. Eek! I must REALLY want to move there!
