Former Colorado state senator wants to end public school education.
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 03:23 PM by MissMarple
Yup, no more neighborhood elementary schools, middle schools, or high schools. Poor people can ask for patrons to help them out with private school fees.

click on the site www.honestedu.org. It's a doozy. They have a list of prominent supporters who have actually signed their pledge. The head of Coral Ridge Ministries (http://www.coralridge.org/) that has services on network TV on Sunday mornings has signed, as well.

http://www.denverpost.com/ewegen

But the best non-help was yet to come, when someone with the screen name "Horace Mann" posted this note: "John Andrews has come out publicly in support of a complete cut-off of ALL public monies for education, from (kindergarten) through graduate school," citing

www.honestedu.org/vips/ as the source.
That site does indeed urge elimination of public education at all levels and asks supporters to sign a pledge: "I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education."

One VIP signatory is "John K. Andrews, Colo. State Senator."

Thus, Andrews is not only on record urging privatizing all higher education, he apparently supports abolishing all public schools.

The website makes it clear that "ending government involvement in education" would leave private schools and home schooling as the only options to Americans of all income levels. Opposing even publicly financed vouchers for private schools, the site answers the rhetorical question, "What about the poor?" by saying, "Providing educational opportunities for low-income families can be met without edu-welfare by replacing the government educational dole with a system of private scholarships funded by charitable donations."

1. We can't keep kids in school as it is and now we are going to make
them BEG for tuition money?

That's brilliant.

2. Looking for an even more dumbed down society, I suspect.
They already believe up is down. Just think what bullshit you can feed them if this idea catches hold & goes through.

3. here's a statement from a tx state rep:
State Representative Debbie Riddle, R-Tomball...

"Where did this idea come from that everybody deserves free education, free medical care, free whatever? It comes from Moscow, from Russia. It comes straight out of the pit of hell. And it's cleverly disguised as having a tender heart, it's ripping the heart out of this country."

9. I always wondered if this statement was ever going to make DU...
I saw it in "The Nation" probably 18 months ago and at the time I said to myself "I don't want to live in the same country with people who think like this!"

12. I took the name back.
Miss Marple is a sensible woman of fairness, decency and responsibility. She would never be a "freeper". They are a common, spiteful, narrow minded, and selfish lot. Agatha Christie would turn over in her grave. :)

7. This has been a neocon quest for many years, nothing new here.
According to neocon ideology, public education is:

A) A socialist program
B) A drain of money away from tax cuts for the rich
C) A waste, as you don't need an education to pick crops or scrub toilets.

Only the rich and selected members of the lower classes need an education, and only enough of the lower classes to prevent widespread revolt. Subvert them early to subservience, and give as many people as possible a belief that they, too, could join the wealthy elite (about as likely as winning the lottery) and life will be peaceful.

8. Bur who will teach them to read their Bibles?
And the workers? I think two reasons we used the public schools. They have to be able to read the Bible just to keep all the Bible Belt together.:dilemma:

10. Let's stop private medical insurance and create universal...
healthcare. That way we can pay for education. I think it would be cheaper.:sarcasm: :eyes:
