Moving to Denver in a couple weeks
Hello all! I look forward to getting to know you all and helping to turn CO blue.
My family and I are moving down to Denver from Minneapolis in a couple weeks.

I'm looking forward to learning about all of your political issues. Here in MN we deal with crazies like Michelle Bachmann and Normie Coleman. Our governor is in bed with Grover Norquist so he refuses to raise taxes... instead (and I'm not kidding) he calls them "fees"

1. Colorado has quite the political scene
It's getting better and more exciting as Democrats claw their way back in. In 2002 we had 2 Repubilican Senators, a 5-2 Republican split in the House Delegation and Republican majorities in both houses of the legislature.

Today we have one Democratic Senator (Ken Salazar), a 4-3 Republican split in the House delegation (thanks to John Salazar, Ken's big brother) and Democratic majorities in both houses of the legislature for the first time since 1961 (the Democratic leadership rode to the Capitol in a '61 Ford convertable on opening day).

In addition, a moderate Democrat named Bill Ritter (the only Dem to speak of in the race) is leading in the polls for Governor while the two Republican candidates slug it out in a bloodsport primary.

There's a fairly good blog at www.coloradopols.com

The news there is pretty topical and usually accurate, but some of the posters are real airheads. Just a warning.

Welcome to Colorado!

5. Good question!
The move is happening VERY quickly as I start my new job on 3/20. The office is in the Tech Center so we'll probably find a place nearby. We're looking for an apartment until our house sells.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

6. Bad (political) news for you
The tech center is in Tancredo's district, if I'm not mistaken.

9. If he moves into metro Denver north of Tech center
he should be okay. Just need to make sure he stays north of Hampden Avenue.

If you're looking for an apartment, may I recommend Crestmoor Downs? it's a really nice and secure area. I used to live in the apartment and the rent was pretty reasonable 4 years ago, and I'm sure it went back down after I moved out and they're BEGGING for people to move in. They have 5 complexes, plus townhouses, so you have a pretty good choice. 2 indoor pools, one outdoor, tennis courts, gym, billards, shuffleboard, few party rooms, you ask for it, they probably have it. 2 nice little ponds for ducks to swim in and for the kiddies to feed and live fish lives in the ponds (Not sure if you can fish 'em). Garage accessible, and have plenty of parking lots. Can get 1 or 2 bedroom, and it's only 10 minutes straight shot on Monaco Parkway to the Tech Center. And you get Romanoff (Speaker of the House for the state House), Gordon (Majority Leader for State Senate who is running for Secretary of State this year), and DeGette (US Congresswoman for District 1) - all true-blue Dems. Plus the usual asshole Mallard and the somewhat-DINO'ish Ken Salazar for US Senate.

7. The area is expensive for
buying and almost just as expensive to rent. Do you have kids that need to go to public school? May I ask what our budget is for renting( how large) and are you going to look for a home quickly? I don't know the cost of houses in MN but it has gotten very expensive in Denver. Let us know if we can help.

WOW! 2 more to help turn our state blue!!! Good work!

8. We got an apartment
Hopefully our house will sell quickly so we can get a house.

I think Mpls and Denver are very similar as far as cost of living. If anything, it may be a little lower in Denver. We get taxed crazy out here.. I mean fee'd like crazy ;)

10. Buy my house!
I have a small house for sale near Illiff & Buckley $164,000. Anyway, you'll probably end up Tancredo's district. The good news is Morgan Carroll is in my district & she's way cool. Welcome to CO!!!

17. Nice to meet you.
Welcome Oreo to you and your family to Colorado. And congrats on your new apartment. We don't live in Denver, but more north in CO. Enjoy the city and the beautiful Rockies. :)

And I think Colorado is a blue state if our voting system were more honest and went back to traceable ballots......

13. check out initiative 76
This is my current gig.

Come on out, register to vote, and sign on.

Here is my standard pitch for the paid work (much, much more than that needs to be done).

I'm Mark Richert, Campaign Manger of Initiative 76. We're trying to get this onto the November ballot.

We are paying $75 per 100 signatures, and naturally, seeking volunteer petitioners as well.

This initiative will:

* Cover Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson & Larimer counties

* 30% of the growth in these counties shall be affordable and/or affordable senior housing

* Limit housing growth to 1% in for the years 2007-2010

* In 2010 election county voters will decide whether to continue limits in each of these counties

To get more info on the paid work please email
dhayes@limitsprawl.com

Feel free to email or call me about any questions you may have
