...."invasion"? Equating Mexican immigrants with terrorists? Jesus, man, I think I'm finally starting to crack. I'm numb from these last five years. Now this? What's next?
One of my favorite people in the world is here illegally. She, and her husband, bust their hump just like the rest of us to put food on the table and give their kids a better crack at opportunities. If I was in her position, I'd do the same goddam thing. They pay into Social Security that they'll never receive. They pay taxes, mortgage, utilities, are some of the most devout Catholics I've ever met, and, given a choice between having them as neighbors, or some bloated, self-righteous, bible thumping "native" with a "conservative" world view, who would you rather live next door to? My amiga doesn't "arrogantly oppose our American culture", she'd actually like to participate in it, but the 11 year red tape monster has her thinking "What's the point?" The "blatant ignoring" of our pre-existing customs laws has been going on for over 20 years, but now, with neocons polling and trolling in the 30's, it's the issue of the day? What color does this register on the Homeland Security Meter? To the Republicans reading this: Are you really afraid that Mexicans are here to steal your job, or more afraid that the "market" is providing a cheaper, faster, and better worker than the one you are willing to be? I've got no beef with anyone trying to come here and make a better life for themselves, and I think the "illegality" is a matter of degree and opinion, just as the "illegality" of outing a CIA agent seems to be.
