It's been such a pleasure to see him harrass Beauprez these past few months.
Speaking of pleasure, did anyone read the long profile of Holtzman in today
Post? Spectacular comedy value. I could barely keep my eyes from tearing up as I read the heartwarming story of a well-connected rich kid pestering his way into the Reagan campaign and eventually becoming a feckless, out-of-touch plutocrat:
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_3897439"Holtzman hardly makes a campaign stop without mentioning the moment his life changed in 1976 while watching Ronald Reagan give a campaign speech on TV. Drawn to the Gipper's patriotism and code of personal responsibility, the 16-year-old with a fancy for red-white-and-blue bedsheets picked up the phone, pledged $25 (or $50, as he sometimes tells it) and dedicated himself to conservative politics.
"Listening to him, his sense of hopefulness, his sense that we can become who we want to become and that there are no limits to growth, it made me feel good about myself," he recalls.
After volunteering for the campaign in 1976, Holtzman struck up a correspondence with the former California governor and arranged for Reagan to give a paid speech to his father's trade group. In Jewelcor's private jet, he tagged along with Reagan between campaign stops. And he wrote monthly letters lavishing praise on the man he still calls his hero.
