We're all screwed if Beauprez wins
http://demnotes.com/In other news, “Both Ways” Bob Beauprez continued to show his organizational ineptitude yesterday with his pick for Lt. Governor. Janet Rowland, who is still in her first term as a county commissioner in Mesa County, was tapped to run for this statewide office, and to be a heartbeat away from serving as Governor. Most folks haven’t heard of Janet Rowland, but the more we learn, the more there is to concern the average Coloradan.
First, there were the revelations that Ms. Rowland recently compared homosexuality as an “alternative lifestyle” similar to bestiality. That’s been in several of the news reports of her pick. But it really doesn’t stop there. That’s, sadly, the tip of the iceberg.
Of course, she opposed Referendum C, which saved Colorado from the brink of fiscal ruin. Again, though, that’s nothing compared to some of her other views.
According to a questionnaire she completed when she ran for County Commissioner, here are a few of her “other” views (courtesy of Colorado Confidential):
– She favors allowing everybody (I mean everybody) to carry concealed weapons WITHOUT A PERMIT. “Since we have a constitutional right to it I don’t see why we need a permit.”
– She favors requiring the teaching of creationism in schools along with evolution. “Either both or neither.”
– Abolition of the separation of church and state — and no right to be an atheist, either. “It’s not in the Constitution. We should have freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion.”
Wow. This may be one of the scariest statewide candidates we’ve seen in a long while here in Colorado. ProgressNowAction is promoting an online petition drive to call on Beauprez to replace Janet Rowland with somebody more, oh, mainstream. If you’re interested, you can find that at:
http://www.progressnowaction.org/page/petition/0806janetwelkerIt is decisions like this that explain why Bill Ritter is moving up in the polls — a Rasmussen poll released yesterday had Ritter with a healthy 9-point lead over Beauprez. Ritter is rapidly approaching the 50-percent mark (yesterday’s poll had him leading 48%-39%).
So, we’re back to GOTV. Unless we keep plugging away, Bob Beauprez and his friends will do everything they can to chip away at this lead and Ritter’s favorability. If you don’t want Gov. Beauprez and Lt. Gov. Rowland, it is up to YOU…
