U.S. Army Spc. Chris Sitton of Montrose was killed Saturday near Camp Blessing, Afghanistan when the supply convoy he was riding in set off an explosive device.

Sitton, the 21-year-old son of Steve and Judy Sitton, was a 2003 graduate of Montrose High School.

He was serving as a medic in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division and had planned on returning to college next year and becoming a physician's assistant, according to his father.

Boy Scouts in the Montrose area filled the Sitton's yard with American flags after learning of his death. Sitton had been an Eagle Scout.

1. What more of our precious resources must we lose before...
this country wakes up? When will we understand that our people are our greatest resource, our capital? We are now on a course that discounts this very basic fact. My heart breaks for the pain this child's parents must feel.

2. Sad news
But at least the campaign in Afghanistan can actually be linked to the 9/11 attacks. Of course, draining so many people off to Iraq doesn't help the campaign any.
