It gets even better in the 5th. Hefley slams Lamborn in the Post.
Washington - Rep. Joel Hefley refused Wednesday to endorse the Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District seat he's vacating, calling primary winner Doug Lam born's campaign "dishonest" and "sleazy."

"I spent eight years trying to get rid of the sleaze factor in Congress," said Hefley, a Republican who chaired the House ethics committee and three times reprimanded then-Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas. "It's not something I can do to help put more sleaze factor in Congress."

Retiring after 20 years in Congress, Hefley, 71, said he could have endorsed any of the five other Republicans who lost in the primary.

Hefley said he doesn't plan to endorse Democratic candidate Jay Fawcett but didn't rule out voting for Fawcett.

1. Too bad Fawcett's campaign is running out of money.
I think we really have a chance in this one, but they won't make it a targeted race, so they're getting no big money. I think they need another million or so to make it.

2. this goes to the heart of the disagreement between
Rahm Emmanuel (DCCC) and Howard Dean (DNC) - Do we spend the money on Dean's 50 state strategy or do we spend it on races this November, where the Democrats have a real chance for one of the most stunning turnarounds in the history of the House?

In the long run Dean's strategy makes sense - but, the current political situation gives us an opportunity that may not be repeated anytime soon.
