Need Info. on Club for Growth for a LTTE
Does anyone have some links on the Club for Growths position on illegal immigration? I know that I read somewhere that they supported amnesty and the guest worker program. I just can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm in the middle of writing a ltte to our local paper on our local repug candidate and one of his major contributers was the Club for Growth. Any help would be appreciated!

1. I didn't find much, either.

Check their blog here.

Also Colorado Confidential has a reply on the website from some individual named "Minuteman". He thinks the CFG wants its candidates to support immigration.

Here is an excerpt. This link doesn't seem to work. I found it by googling Club for Growth immigration issues.

" But, Doug Lamborn was the only Republican Congressional candidate calling for guest worker programs for illegal immigrants, as noted more than once in published articles in the Pueblo Chieftan. That was, by the way, long after his endorsement from the Club for Growth. Looks like his interviews with Toomey and company went well. You could speculate they trained him well. He'll have to dodge the bullet for a season in the general election and say he's not in favor of Bush's open borders mentality, but, if he's sent to Congress, that's when the Club for Growth will be calling in chits.

And do not think the Club for Growth won't go to the ends of the earth to get "guest worker" congressmen elected. They'll fight tooth and toenail to help defeat those who will stand in their way on the matter. Here's an example.

Robert Vasquez, Republican--and who was endorsed by TOM TANCREDO--was the ONLY anti-immigration candidate in Idaho's 1st Congressional District and attributes his loss in a 6 man GOP primary to the Club for Growth. Vasquez, who is the grandson of Mexican immigrants, warned: "The example provided in Idaho by Club for Growth should serve as notice to those of us battling the invasion of illegal aliens." He specifically warns of a GOP commitment to "Crush Challengers who are against Illegal Immigration."
See this fully reported and see the horrific dirty tricks the Club for Growth undertook in Nathan Miller's article in For the Cause here: http://www.forthecause.us/ftc-n-muller-060612-Robert_Vasquez.shtml

By the way, that article that was excerpted, above, from the New York Times was written about Congressman Mike Pence, of Indiana, who has a "perfect" 100 point rating from the Club for Growth.

Here's some more of the article, "Conjure what might be called the perfect conservative, and chances are he would look a lot like Representative Mike Pence, the Indiana Republican who in just three terms has turned 100 House allies into a vanguard and himself into one of his party’s rising stars. Or that was the case until this spring when he sought compromise in the rancorous immigration debate. His complicated plan would strengthen border security and send illegal immigrants home, but let most of them quickly return. Since then, Mr. Pence — named last year’s Man of the Year by the conservative weekly Human Events — has looked to some conservatives like this year’s Benedict Arnold. They say he has lent his conservative prestige to a form of liberal amnesty."

Edited...I actually read the article a bit more thoroughly.

2. You see?
That's my point, Lamborn roasts Jay Fawcett in an ad here that says Fawcett is for "amnesty", when actually he has said he is not. Yet, his major contributor, Club for Growth, is for the guest worker program and a "path to citizenship" but, says, this is not "amnesty". It's amnesty. This is a huge issue in this state and I'm well aware that the voters here won't take to kindly to Lamborns stance, if they knew Lamborns stance. Not that I'm with the "deport them all" crowd, I'm not. I know that this issue is not black and white, it's much more complex than that. That's why I think Fawcett's plan for a real discussion on Immigration to delve into the issue and all it's complexities is a really great plan. I just need some quotes from this group to put into the LTTE and make that point. I do however have this little gem of a quote from the founder of Club for Growth, Steve Moore, to share with the Colorado Springs public, that they will find almost as interesting:

" "I can say this because I'm not an elected official: the most selfish group in America today is senior citizens. Their demands on Washington are: 'Give us more and more and more.' They have become the new welfare state, and given the size and political clout of this constituency, it's very dangerous. One of the biggest myths in politics today is this idea that grandparents care about their grandkids. What they really care about is that that Social Security check and those Medicare payments are made on a timely basis."

3. CFG and illegal campaign coordination activities....
Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 05:59 PM by MissMarple
Linking Lamborn to the Club for Growth doesn't look like such a bad idea. I wonder if Lou Dobbs has covered this. He absolutely cannot tolerate the administration's stance on illegal immigration. If the CFG is legally coordinating campaign ads, is soft on illegal immigration, and is trying to undermine Social Security and Medicaid...well, folks just might want to know about that, as well as how beholden Lamborn is to them.

http://www.coloradopols.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2112

"Whether you are Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, everyone must adhere to our nation's campaign finance laws," said U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz (R-Battle Creek). "As a Congressman, I have sworn to uphold the laws of the United States and when I have found clear evidence of any laws being broken, I must report that Club for Growth has flagrantly violated the laws, not only in Michigan but in races across the nation."
http://westmichiganp...
In addition to Michigan, included in the suit are allegations of illegal coordination by the Club for Growth on behalf of Bill Sali in Idaho, and candidates in Nevada and Rhode Island.

Doug Lamborn's campaign is not mentioned in this new lawsuit. Frankly, the facts that are alleged in Schwarz's suit merit enquiry as having possibly occured in Colorado as well as they may be identical or similar enough that Schwarz would want to bring Doug Lamborn's campaign into the fold.
