Hit-and-run driver hits stroller; mom, 2 kids killed
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/11/stroller.deaths.ap/index.html

DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A hit-and-run driver struck a couple crossing a street with a stroller, killing a woman and her two young children and injuring the youngsters' father, police said.

Two men were arrested early Saturday.

Wreckage from the stroller was strewn across the busy intersection Friday night in the popular LoDo district of restaurants, clubs, stores and sports venues.

"I went down there and it was a well-lit street," said police spokesman Sonny Jackson. "There was no excuse for it. It is one of the most horrific accidents we've had."

The father was in stable condition Saturday at Denver Health Medical Center.

The license plate of the red pickup was knocked off in the crash, leading police to the vehicle's owner and to the arrests in neighboring Westminster, authorities said.

Sickening :puke:

12. Here in LA it is extremely common. Typically the driver either races away
or gets out and RUNS away. Most of these latter are illegal aliens with no insurance, stolen plates, whatever.

People drive like FREAKS in this city, BTW. Word of warning to anybody who is planning on coming here. Pulling out in front of oncoming traffic or turning left in front of same appears to be de riguer.

3. How tragic!
Police quoted: "there was no excuse for it." Sounds like DUI likely.

5. I'm Glad They Arrested The
men. They switched cars and tried to escape according to this AM's paper.
The mom must have died today - heartbreaking.

6. We've had some similar incidents in my area, too.
People not only flee the scene of the crime but try to cover up what they've done.

Frankly, given the way some people drive, I'm actually surprised there aren't more of these horrific incidents. I've watched motorists nearly drive into a group of pedestrians while crossing.

And then there are the evil bastards who try to pass stopped school buses or, worse yet, try to pass around a turning motorist who has paused to let pedestrians cross at an intersection. There are also quite a few people who view the right-on-red rule as carte blanche to drive through without slowing down, let alone stopping.

woman's car was cut in half. She died at the hospital while the kid who was racing had only minor injuries. Mom tried to comfort her until help arrived, but couldn't get too close since power lines were down on the woman's car. I can't imagine being the father.

9. Horrible. Yesterday near here a guy killed 3 people then himself
over a dispute of a 5 foot fence-line location. I know it's not the same kind of situation but it's
equally sad.

10. I hope they get life in prison....

He said police didn't know how fast the truck was going, but witness Alice Maynard told the Rocky Mountain News it appeared to be going about 50 mph.

"It was really fast, and it hit this family and didn't even stop and didn't even slow down," Maynard told KUSA-TV.

Lawrence Trujillo, 36, was arrested on three counts of investigation of vehicular homicide, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest, police said. Eric Phil Snell, 35, was arrested on three counts of investigation of accessory to a crime.

14. Arapahoe at 15th.
If you examine where these people were hit at the southwest corner crossing arapahoe. It looks like the car was using the right turn lane to cut around the stopped traffic on Southbound Arapahoe at 15th. I have no doubt that the driver was trying to cut around the red light.

I walk by this intersection everyday and you only see the crazy drivers at night.

This guy's an Asswipe, I'm hope he gets the maximum penalty for these murders.

15. I just found out yesterday that we actually know a member of the family
that is mourning the death today.

Apparently Becca is a relative.

16. DUI
It was a DUI.

Apparently the kids were sent flying 25 feet. I live less than a block away from the accident. I'm always thinking of this now on the street, watching for crazy maniacs. Almost saw a guy run down a man crossing the street last night.
