Post: Denver trying harder to get '08 convention than NY
It would be nice for the state party if we could land the Convention (and it would be somewhat better than nice for the people who work in the service industries in Denver).

Two bids for DNC like night and day

The two cities bidding to host the Democratic National Convention have done so with styles that could not be more different.

Denver officials, conscious of the fact that their city is an unknown entity for the Democrats, have made a highly public effort to push Denver's strength as a burgeoning Democratic base and counter concerns about fundraising and lodging issues.

New York, which has hosted five party conventions since Denver hosted its only one in 1908, has remained quietly suave and debonair as Denver scrambles to woo the Democratic suitor.

"Denver's got a larger sales job to do," New York Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf said. "New York, from an accommodations standpoint, has an easier job to do."

1. What better way to show that the Dems are gaining thread in the midwest than to have the convention
In Denver, what does have NYC have to offer than being a glorfied city, In the last two elections Colorado have been gaining traction for the Democrats. In 2004 Colorado elected Democrats Ken Salazar to the Senate and his brother John to Congress. In 2006 Colorado elected Democrats Bill Ritter to become there Governor and Ed Permuttler to Congress to succeed Republican Bob Beauprez and almost defeated Republican Marylyn Musgrave by a slim margin. And in 2008 having a good chance to defeat Republican Senator Wayne Allard.

I think to show that the Democrats are gaining inroads in the midwest they show that the DNC at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

It would be an excellent choice in my opinion.

2. Allard will probably not run
Leaving an open seat with a strong Dem. candidate in Mark Udall. I read in GD that the Denver's hopes are fading because evidently there aren't enough hotel rooms. I hope we can get this, though, it would be quite a boon to Colorado and the national party.
