Colorado Effort for Universal Health Care in 2007
How many are aware of this proposal, set to be put to the public in Nov, 2007?
http://www.healthcareforallcolorado.org/index.php?p=2&ID=300&d=1

This Bill was written by Dr. Rocky White, of Alamosa.

Here is the beginning of the Rationale behind the Bill: http://www.healthcareforallcolorado.org/index.php?p=955&ID=343&d=1

Background of the Colorado Draft Bill for Single Payer Health Care

The enclosed bill was written to follow a single payer model and to tailor it specifically for the state of Colorado. Understandably, there is a lot of fear generated over the idea of a single payer system. This paper and this bill were written to address and to help alleviate those fears.

To most Americans, a single payer system at its best translates into a giant Medicare-type bureaucracy and at its worse into socialized medicine. A single payer system could be either one of those, but this proposal is neither.

In its purest sense, "single payer" is just that -- one entity that oversees the financing of health care. There are numerous countries around the world that follow this model, yet they all do it differently and independently with their own unique solutions. In fact, right here in the United States, we have several different single payer models -- all of which have their own virtues and short comings. These programs include: Medicare, Medicaid, the Indian Health Services, the Veterans Administration, and the military. In fact, the military is truly socialized medicine.

We have before us the unique opportunity to review what is good and what is bad in single payer systems, to assimilate that information, and to forge a truly sound, just, viable, and sustainable health care system. This program can achieve that.

There are four basic components to any health care system:

coverage and benefits.

financing.

delivery of care and infrastructure.

governance.

5. Right now I can't find the applicable section on that...but...
Here is this section:

TITLE V – EFFECTIVE DATE

Section 501. Effective Date

(1) Except as otherwise specifically outline, this Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.

I will have to place a couple of calls, apparently, to get "full disclosure"... :) :hi:

4. Sounds good. Let's hope your governor doesn't veto it like
our Gov. Terminator did here in California. We had a universal health care bill that passed both the state legislatures and the muscle brain canceled it.

6. Our good news is--Colorado's REPBLICAN gov, as I understand it,
demanded that the state Chamber of Commerce to invite Dr. Rocky White (the writer of our state Bill!) to address their meeting. They dragged their feet, and he forced them to have him speak. What I heard from another Dr who is close with White is that he had them in the palm of his hand, and at the end of the meeting they were sold! There was much excitement from them.

So, if that is all true, then we have a good chance.

Also, in Dec. we have a Dem gov! :) :) :) :) :)

That, of course, guarantees nothing, as you notice how many Dems don't support Universal Health Care. :( :( :( :(

So, there is much work to do, and I soitenly wish Colorado would follow CA's model, and organize huge educational efforts in all counties! I'm so impressed with what you have going there!

Yesterday I just got a rural area here to start working on getting a meeting with a speaker, and I'm hoping we can get some of these good online videos hooked up and spread around.

I fear that our state organization isn't as organized as it needs to be.... sigh....

All I can do is my small part.

Thanks for the interest! Keep your fingers crossed for Colorado, and we'll keep ours crossed for CA in 2007!!
