What can you tell me about the Valdoro Mountain Lodge in Breckenridge, Colorado?

We're contemplating a visit there for a week starting on or about about August 16 -- in SUMMER 2008.

It is in the RCI system and we can trade into that system from the Hilton vacation club for relatively few points in the summer. They do have a vacancy there and we have to decide by Monday, June 4.

If you live near there, or have ever vacationed there, kindly let me hear from you. Please tell us whether you've been there in summer or winter. We don't ski, so we'd just like your opinion on the facility itself. Thanks in advance.

1. I'm not sure I stayed there, but we had a family reunion at a similar looking place in

Breckenridge a few years ago and it was great. One thing you will need to remember is that the altitude there in Summit County is about 7000 feet..It can be chilly at night even in August. You might want to check out the reviews at www.tripadvisor.com I just did a quick check and there are several good ones.Good luck, and welcome to Colorado if you decide to take the trip.

3. well, I am a CO native and have been to Breckenridge several times!

the mountains there are really pretty and there is much stuff to do in the summer, also.

Breckenridge is located in Summit County, which has Copper Mountain, Keystone, Frisco and Lake Dillon. There are factory outlet stores at Silverthorne and many great restaurants and brewpubs. Last time I was up there, Copper Mountain ski area would let you take their chair lifts up to the top of the mountain for free, so that you could walk down at your own leisure. CM also had free paddle boats on their small lake. You can rent some bicycles and go on many different trails.


Breckenridge itself is a really cute little town done in the Victorian style. There are the usual movie theaters and other types of entertainment. There is no shortage of things to do.


I don't think that you would regret spending a week there, at least if you like the outdoors- hiking, biking, etc.

Being a travel agent in the past, I always recommend that you send away for the visitors guide from the city and/or the state. With this particular city, there may be something under the headline of Summit County, also- as that is where those major ski areas are all located.

4. All of this information is really wonderful. My husband is making the reservations...

the only thing bad we heard was that the place was not airconditioned. One couple had a torrid weeklong vacation in August 2006 -- they faced east and it was hot in their bedroom room even in the nighttime. Also, the window on their main room did not open and I don't think they had a porch. That would be hell for me.

The thing they don't mention is the subject of room fans. Last time we went to the mountains of Utah, to the Snowbird resort, located in Little Cotton Canyon I think, at 11,000 ft., the bedroom was quite hot in the daytime, but the hotel provided several fans and the nighttime temperature dropped off into the high 30s and low 40s. I did take one day to adjust to the altitude, but the room was OK for sleeping.

5. Breck is great.

I've done a few events at the Valdoro. It always seemed like a good place to me.

Have a blast . . . hiking, scenery, horseback riding, biking, drinking, eating . . .
