Durango...
Hey Colorado folks,

I might have an opportunity to take a job in Durango next month. I'm a single guy in my 20s and I'm currently living in Albuquerque. Well, actually I've lived in ABQ most of my life.

Anyway, I've been to Durango many times and have a few friends up there and I really love it. I like various outdoor pursuits and I find that Durango provides a lot of opportunities to get outside.
However, I'm concerned that this fondness for the city, while it prompted me to apply for a job, etc., might wear off quickly. That is, Durango's small town vibe might catch up to me once the freshness wears off.

What do you think? Does anyone here on DU live in Durango? What's it like for young, single people? Do you think that the community is hard to "break" into or is cold to transplants?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! :hi:

but the social scene is small town and ski/recreational related.... If you want access to larger city activities, you might feel a little isolated (Denver is 337 or so miles away--which is a long drive in the winter). There is a small university there, though. And, it is a beautiful area.

(I live in Denver)

2. I'm a little too old to know about the social scene for someone in their 20s..
but there are a lot of young people here for the reasons you describe. There are running and biking "clubs" where you could meet people. I think that for a small town we have a lot to offer for entertainment because of the college being here. We have a theater that shows indy films, we have live music downtown and a variety of concerts at the college. There are also lots of different weekend festivals from Blue Grass Meltdown, Film Festival, Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Gallery Walk etc. And as you obviously know the drive to Albuquerque for a weekend is pretty easy.
