The Denver Broncos have fired head coach Mike Shanahan. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen issued a statement: "This is certainly a difficult decision, but one that I feel must be made and which will ultimately be in the best interests of all concerned." http://www.denverpost.com/

1. Heh. Dad told me that about 20 minutes ago.

He said "5 years too late".

I agree. I'm hoping that Pat Bowlen will pull out ALL stops to recruit Bill Cowher to Denver. He's an EXCELLENT coach with defense in his mind. It would be GREAT if Denver beats out NYJ for Cowher's services, although he said he may not be ready to accept a job until 2010 (he wants 2 years off from coaching). I understand from Cowher's perspective that his kids are going to school in the NY/NJ area, so if our local colleges (U of C or CSU) could offer them a full ride scholarship, I think we can get Cowher, but we'll see.

Since Shanahan already let go of the personnel decisions - Cowher said he wants to bring in his own personnel director - and I have no problems with that.

If not, hopefully we'll find someone as good. The offense is ranked #2 in the NFL. We just need to upgrade the defense big time. If it means giving up Champ and Bly to get the necessary personnel to do the job, so be it. They're aging anyway, and we need the new blood.

2. New Year's Eve eve present! He just didn't do his job so he was fired.
Edited on Tue Dec-30-08 08:01 PM by Democrats_win
In 2000, the Broncos suffered for lack of wide receivers. The result: Terrell Davis suffers career-ending injury tackling somone after an intercepted pass. Where was Shanahan? Hosting some dolt from Texas who wanted to be president.

In 2008, the Broncos suffered for lack of running backs. If they had a good running back, the defense wouldn't have been on the field so much. Fewer losses. Where was Shanahan? Attending the wedding of bush's daughter. He also promised to go to the playoffs. He showed how dishonorable he was by not resigning.

What a great year! bush's buddy Mike Shenanigan is gone! People kept saying he had a job for life. He deserved to be fired. His team was awful to watch. They lost 4 games at home. Two games he won because of the good luck inherent in playing at Mile High Stadium. The last 8 years have been almost as bad as bush's presidency for Broncos fans.

There's no stopping the Broncos now. Obama lifted the bush curse on our stadium when he called it "Mile High Stadium." Now our loser coach is gone. The Orange Crush is back!

I was listening to the radio when they announced he was fired. I think it's for the best, the Broncos need a new coach.

6. For TWO days running,
The news of Shanahan's firing took up three-quarters of the front page of the Denver Post. Meanwhile, we are lucky if news from Iraq or D.C. makes page 6. Reminds me of an old "Colorado Daily" satire issue where the entire front page was taken up by 96-point headline "Broncos Lose Super Bowl" and an accompanying picture, with a small line of text across the bottom saying "World War III starts: see page 8".:nuke:

7. Don't fault just the Post

Face it, the Donkos are the most important thing in Denver according to the media. They aren't for you and me. What can we do?

8. it's about time
I've been calling for his firing to anyone that will listen for at least the last five years.

Now maybe the donkeys can consentrate on what really wins championships -

Defense.
