Looks like they hope to torpedo his town hall.

1. We need to defend our reps
Where can I find organized resistance to this rabble rousing at town halls. I would be happy to join and attend. I assume there is by now an organized strategy to undermine this threat. I would like to be a part of that. At a minimum, someone put me in touch with those going to this town hall.

3. I wonder
if the craziness could be controlled if attendees were asked to identify themselves as constituents before being allowed to attend.

I don't see this being suggested as an approach to defend ourselves against these bussed-in opponents.

Why?

4. I called his office to ask about the venue being at King Soopers
The woman explained that often these town halls at the grocery store are held just outside the store. She also said that police would probably be there to help keep the peace should anything nasty develop.

It might be hard to get ID when the venue is outdoors like that.

5. We need to get organized ourselves
Well, I think I am going to attend this meeting. Does anyone know of any other scheduled meetings. I understand Betsy Markey's office was picketed by these people. I suppose there is nothing wrong with that as long as there was no intimidation. These people need to be called out and shamed. They need to be shown to be anti-democratic and anti-American. We are going to lose this thing if we don't remain involved and support the people we elected. If we leave them mostly alone to face these fringe elements in a vacuum all our hopes for change will be nothing more than wishful thinking. If anyone knows where I can get more involved let me know. What happened to the organization that got Obama elected?

10. There were several organized responses.
MoveOn.org sent emails out getting people out there. Obama's Organizing For America mobilized their people and were out in force. Several unions were there - I hung out with the SEIU people - really cool folks, BTW. HCAC, DFA and other health-care groups all came out.

And yeah, the teabaggers showed up hoping to scream down Perlmutter and found us there, ready.

It was awesome!

On a sour note, they got frustrated, and apparently, a pro-reform person at the rally got his car vandalized - several dents, the paint job got keyed, and the side mirrors broken.

6. We were there today.
I can happily report that pro-reform people DOMINATED the crowd. We were actually there to do our regular shopping. When we got there, there were mostly teabaggers, maybe 10-20. When we left, there was probably 200 people chanting and cheering and it was hard to find the freepers amongst the crowd.

It was nice to see.

7. I was there, confirming - WE WHOOPED THEIR ASSES!!!
It was like three-to-one, pro-Obama to teabaggers. Lots of cheering, a less ugly mood than at the Stout Street Clinic event.

There were a few shouting matches, but overall, I think we managed to get enough of our guys there to make it clear to the teabaggers that while, yes, they're perfectly free to express themselves, make their signs, and do their chants, that they were not going to shut down Ed Perlmutter's town hall.

Awesome job, everyone!

9. Congrats to you, too!
I've got a broken toe and am regretting not being there. Brighton is easy to get to. Ed is having another town hall near the end of the month in Thornton and I'm going to get there hook or crook.

Congrats again for doing such a terrific job for democracy. :hi:
