Sen. Irene Aguilar, a south Denver Democrat, wants a new state insurance co-operative to consolidate premiums from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies. All state residents would get coverage, filling the gaps remaining after health care reform is fully in place. Aguilar argues the resulting agency would provide care more efficiently and improve quality by studying outcomes to choose the best treatments.
Efficiency would mean spending Huerfano's money on health care, instead of untangling bills, Zehring said.
