The Weld County District Attorney’s Office today filed one count of theft against the former chairman of the Larimer County Republican Party, accusing the Fort Collins resident of stealing $17,696.34 from the organization.
The allegation against Larry Carillo is that he used party funds for his personal benefit, including payments of phone bills, cable television and gambling debts.
An investigation conducted by the Fort Collins Police Department was presented to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, acting as special prosecutors, after the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office determined it had a conflict in charging and prosecuting the case.
Carillo served as chairman of the organization from February 2009 to February 2011. A warrant was issued for his arrest this morning.
