Democrats target Colorado Senate seat

(CNN) -
Democrats are targeting Colorado in the hopes of picking up the open seat of Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who is retiring.

In the Republican race, beer magnate Pete Coors launched his bid for the seat in April, upsetting the political apple cart along the way.

Coors gave Republicans a wealthy and well-known contender in their quest to keep the seat out of Democratic hands. He also gave popular Gov. Bill Owens, a Republican, a reason to rethink an early endorsement for former U.S. Rep. Bob Schaffer.

Campbell has endorsed Coors. Owens changed his endorsement and is now backing Coors. Schaffer and Coors will face off in the primary August 10.

The winner will likely face Attorney General Ken Salazar, who has twice won statewide races in Republican-leaning Colorado. Salazar faces long-shot Mike Miles in the Democratic primary.

1. "Schaffer and Coors will face off in the primary August 10."
Funny. I wonder if Schlitz is running as well.

2. I Thought The Same Thing
I grew up in New Jersey in the '50s and '60s, when the three most popular beers were Schaeffer, Rheingold, and Piels.

4. I grew up in NYC!
And my dad once got a Piels Brothers clock from a firend who had a bar and grill in Brooklyn. Cartoon figures of Bert and Harry stood to one side of the dial. Piels was dad's favorite.

I remember them!!! Their voices were provided by the comedy team of Bob Gould & Ray Elliot (father of Chris Elliot).

I left NJ in 1994, and moved to Colorado the following year. When did YOU get here???

7. I moved here in 1976
And my family loved Bob and Ray! When my brother and his best pal were in high school, they got a hold of one of a tape recorder and used to make up their own B & R bits. For me, the wildest B&Rs were the "s-l-o-w t-a-l-k-e-r" interviews. Today, in our fast paced world, they're even more excruciating to listen to. :)

Do you get back to Jersey often? When I was very little we'd spend some time in Keansburg, taking the ferry from NYC. But that's ancient history from like 1950!

8. I Haven't Been Back Since 1997
And so much had changed in just the three years I'd been gone. I'm sure I wouldn't even recognize the place now.

3. I hope we're not complacent though
Can't help but remember Chambliss and the disgusting attacks his campaign made as the last election drew closer. Salazar may be a favorite son but repukes are vicious liars.

I need some yard signs. Does anyone if they're readily available? I'm in Jeffco.

6. Call You Local Democratic Party Headquarters
They'll either have them, or be able to direct you to someone who does.
