Gov. Rell sees which way wind is blowing, supports civil unions now
Gov Jodi Rell saw that the state overwhelmingly supports civil unions, so now our RepubliCON governor has also come out publicly in favor of civil unions. I'm sure if she was a Democrat, she'd be accused of flip-flopping or leading to the moral decay of the state...

Gov. M. Jodi Rell endorsed the concept of civil unions for same-sex couples Tuesday, adding to the momentum building behind the gay-rights measure.

"I don't believe in discrimination of any sort, and I want people to have equal rights and equal opportunities," Rell said.

The governor said she had not evaluated the civil-unions bill approved last week by the judiciary committee, but for the first time she offered unqualified support for the concept.

"The concept I don't have trouble with," Rell told reporters after a ceremony at the Capitol for new judges.

1. Is there anything now in the CT constitution
that prevents homosexuals from getting married? Is there anything in the U. S. Constitution that prevents homosexuals from getting married? Maybe I'm just naive or hardheaded but I see no legal roadblock to gay marriages in existence now (except for the amendments passed by some dumbasses in some dumbass states). Civil Union Legislation is just putting homosexuals in a discriminatory box, in my opinion. I say off to the wedding chapel.

2. While I agree with you...
Would you rather have civil unions now and gay marriage in a few years, or would you rather have nothing now and everybody afraid to go all the way & propose gay marriage for several years because it was rejected in the first place?

3. Why does Gay marriage have to be proposed?
Where is the legal restrictions NOW on gay marriage? I want all American Citizens to have the right to pursue life, liberty and happiness. I don't want some zealot wankers throwing their religion around like its some legal hammer. Its not. Gays can get married now. Or I'm extremely hardheaded. Why does action have to be taken to amend a document to ban a process? Because the ban isn't in there now. I know we are on the same side of this issue so please help me understand how I'm thinking wrong.

4. Nobody seems to know
If our fearless A.G. Dick Blumenthal doesn't, who does? It does seem to be the strategy of most gay rights groups in CT to go for the civil unions and not hold out for gay marriage (one gay rights group that did has decided now to back civil unions). I would like to hope that civil unions will pave the way eventually for gay marriages and today's battles will look quaint in just a few years because we will have evolved to a higher place on the issue.
