First Democratic challenger to Lieberman steps up...
Politics professor considering challenging Lieberman

March 17, 2005
Associated Press WASHINGTON -- A Fairfield University politics professor who ran unsuccessfully for congress in 1984, said Wednesday he is exploring a challenge to Sen. Joe Lieberman in 2006.

John Orman, of Trumbull, said he is creating an advisory committee to evaluate a run for the Democratic nomination.

"There is a great national debate going on for the heart and soul of the Democratic party," said Orman, 56. "Let the battle begin here and now in Connecticut."

1. Great!
I mean he looks just like John Bolton Bush's UN appointee and I have no clue what his politics are but warmonger Joe has gotta go. =)

2. it's an uphill battle
Even if Paul Newman ran, he'd still have a fight to beat Lieberman... but, if Orman gets some support, it may force Joe to move closer to the mainstream instead of his typical RW.

Though, I was happy that Lieberman voted against drilling in ANWR.

3. Oh I don't expect Dr Orman to actually win or anything.
But someone needed to be the first to step up right? There is only one Democrat in the state who I think would have a better than even chance of beating Joe and there is really no way Blumenthal would take such a risk. He doesn't ever seem to risk anything. =(

Never know though. Bush could still always go the appointing Lieberman as SoD and having Rell appoint Johnson. Which IMO would be the best thing for us. Blumenthal gets to run without upsetting orthodox voters and Johnson loses her her congressional district.

Did you expect him to support ANWR? He has a great environmental record and I would love for him to say head the EPA... But that is not what he is after he wants to be SoD and continue his warmongering.

4. I was hoping Blumenthal would run last time against Rowland
Blumenthal is pretty popular & well known in the state - I even heard a Republican co-worker a few weeks back say that even though Blumenthal is a Democrat, he thinks he is maybe the best AG in the country. (I think many would go for Spitzer, but I thought it interesting that a Republic said it)

5. The Dump Joe people I just met seemed pleased with him and
that Salon had picked up. Their impression was that Joe hasn't got a clue that we are turning on him--they are getting support from people everywhere. They are looking for volunteers to help bring Joe to a primary--so make sure to check them out and help if you can/want to!

8. I haven't heard that he dropped out or anything
though, i'd imagine getting enough names on the ballot will be a challenge.
