ct senate to vote on civil unions
don't get your hopes up jets fans, i can smell another dead civil rights bill on our hands.

here's a snip from the office of fiscal analysis regarding sb 963 an act concerning civil unions.

follow the money. the states are just making too much money off of gay folks.

http://cgalites/2005/fn/2005SB-00963-R00-FN.htm

Income Tax

The impact of the bill on personal income tax collections is expected to be negligible because the projected revenue gain from changing the filing status of partners in civil unions will roughly offset the projected revenue loss from changing the tax treatment of an employer's contribution to health insurance for partners in a civil union.

Filing Status

Under current law, the Connecticut personal income tax requires married couples to file as couples, either jointly or separately. Requiring partners entering into a civil union to file in the same way is expected to result in a net minimal gain (less than $50,000) in FY 06 and an annual gain of between $200,000 and $500,000 beginning in FY 07. The estimate assumes that filing as a couple rather than as a single filer will result in a greater tax liability for same sex couples in a civil union because the level of earnings of same sex couples may generally tend to be more similar than married couples. 1

check your paper in the morning. i'll post a vote talley when i get to work. some repubs have now put up an admenment to the bill defining marrriage as a man and woman. i'm so pissed off right now

:wtf:

4. before, she said she would sign, this morning, seemed hesitant
A few months back, she said she would likely sign a civil unions bill. Now, this morning, she said she'd have to see the details of the bill before making a decision. Setting up for a flip-flop?

However, 27-9 is a veto proof margin. Disappointed my old senator (Billy Ciotto from when I was in Newington) voted against it, despite being a Democrat.

6. Billy Ciotto is too old and senile
There, now let me say it again, Billy Ciotto is a jerk and a liar I repeat, Billy Ciotto is a jerk and a liar. When Billy Ciotto wanted my vote he made me believe that he supprted equal rights for all people. Not that Billy Ciotto is my Senator again he not only voted against civil unions but also supported other Republican amendments like putting it out to a state referendum and a statement that says marriage can only be between a man and woman. To me, Billy Ciotto has sunk to the levels of George Bush and Rob Simmons. Am I upset? You bet I am! Billy Ciotto is a jerk and a liar and I will tell him to his face next time I see that old senile liar.

15. Did he vote against it because he he was against equal rights
or did he vote against it because he thought it didn't go far enough, that he wanted homosexual marriage?

I heard that several dems were going to vote no in protest because of wanting outright homosexual marriage.

Is it possible for a straight couple to get a civil union? That would be a great statement... =)

No, I don't believe he voted against it because he favored same sex marriage. He voted against it because he is a old senile fool.

16. don't hold back now
If you keep things bottled up inside, it's not good. Let it out & tell us how you really feel! ;-)

But, didn't a Democrat switch parties to run against Ciotto because the person that switched felt that Ciotto was not critical enough of Rowland? So, he basically ran to the left of Ciotto despite being a Republican for only a few months?

I realize I'm probably a little over the edge but Ciotto's vote has me outraged! You are right, Ciotto ran against a former Democrat who switched parties and claimed Ciotto was dirty with Rowland and Tomasso. To be honest, he was very believable but at that time I just couldn't bring myself to vote for a Republican even though he was once a Democrat. Besides, Ciotto has always been a strong union supporter and being raised in a union family my father would have killed me if I voted Republican. Given the chance again after being betrayed by Ciotto I would disappoint my father and do the unthinkable. Of course, this exception would only apply to 80 years old Ciotto.

12. roll call vote of cv bill as amended
Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 08:30 AM by cassandra uprising
http://www.cga.ct.gov/2005/vote/h/2005HV-00076-R00SB00963-HV.htm

for what ever reason, my computer is not letting me copy links to the information of the amendment. however, the information is very easy to access. go to www.cga.ct.gov
in the top tool bar there is a quick search tool bar

to search for the doma amendment

under quick search by enter 'LCO#'
under number enter '5446'
the year is already preset for 2005 then click on 'go'

if you want to search all action on the bill

repeat the same steps only
enter 'bill'
'963'
then go

the bill as amended only gained 5 votes. out of the ten sponsors of the amendment only two (ward and cafero)voted in favor of the bill as amended.

edit: the gov has said she will sign the bill as amended, but first it needs to go back to the senate

but, it is a step in the right direction. Disappointing to see the amendment, though.

Thanks for all your updates on legislative issues. I appreciate it! I'm sure others on here do, too.
