what do folks think of this "Utopia" project proposal in Preston?
The one where a Hollywood developer named Gentile (with his wife Cathy Moriarity) want to build a Hollywood studio in Preston, CT, along with a 4000 room hotel & an indoor amusement center, all for $1.6 billion. They seem to have the financing and all that, and it is near the casinos, so it could make the area even more of a tourist destination... but, I think Route 2 would need major re-working or re-routing, as those last 15 miles or so from Norwich to near the RI border are very slow drives even without traffic.

Here is more from the Sunday Courant?

Utopia Studios: So Close, But Not A Wrap
September 11, 2005
By RICK GREEN, Courant Staff Writer

PRESTON -- A New York developer who surrounds himself with Hollywood insiders and talks in billions of dollars, thousands of jobs and grand hotels has crashed into a roadblock erected by a small town sandwiched between the world's largest casinos.

Some people are now worried that, in its zeal to consider every aspect of Joseph Gentile's $1.6 billion Utopia Studios proposal, Preston may shut the door on a blockbuster economic development opportunity that could benefit the entire state. Gentile and his ever-growing posse of film industry executives say Utopia could bring millions of dollars in moviemaking and thousands of jobs to Connecticut.

Gentile's astonishing - some say unbelievable - vision for 12 state-of-the-art sound stages, 2 million square feet of indoor theme parks and hotels on the 400-acre site of the former Norwich State Hospital along the Thames River is in danger of collapsing because local leaders are concerned about its size and viability.

2. the mohegans are against it?
I would think that if this project was completed, it would make SE CT even more of a tourist destination and bring more people into the area, and therefore more potential customers for Mohegan Sun.
